The River Sor

Need to Sell your South West France Property Fast? - This WEBSITE is for SALE. I SOLD my HOUSE direct to British buyers via this site.

The River Sor runs alongside the property. It is an official "premier category" trout river (the best classification there is.) There is a healthy population of brightly spotted wild brown trout and twice or three times a season some larger reared brownies are stocked (by larger I mean around the 30cm mark as opposed to the wild fish size of average 15-25cm).

The locals fish a mixture of "en toc" (v light bait fishing, usually baited with a live caddis larva) and fly.

The river is gin-clear and has a host of fly life: caddis/sedges, mayflies, damsels and small olives predominate.

Other Riverside Wildlife

Most excitingly there is a family of otters in the valley. One sees them rarely in the garden (a dog otter's territory is around 20km of river) but they are a joy to watch when you get the chance. (Owner's Excited Update Last Sighting 1st July 2007).There are also deer within the Languedoc park and surrounding hills and they come down to the river sometimes to drink. The river also has herons and kingfishers to give us human anglers some competition! Other birds like dippers and yellow wagtails are regulars.

Is there a flood risk?

Topical question with what is happening in the UK at the moment and I am happy to state that there is NO RISK OF FLOODING. This is because the rivers flow is controlled by a dam at the top of the valley - its level remains constant whatever the weather (they just open the tap in dry spells and turn it down in wet spells I guess)
