Southern Tarn Weather and Climate

Need to Sell your South West France Property Fast? - This WEBSITE is for SALE. I SOLD my HOUSE direct to British buyers via this site.

This stone country house HAS NOW BEEN SOLD SUBJECT TO CONTRACT is in the southern part of the Tarn department. The climate of the Tarn, and this part of the Tarn in particular, is likely to important to you. We feel it is just perfect! The weather is significantly warmer and sunnier (about 2,000 hours per year)than Northern France and drier than western France yet not arid or stifling.

Mediterranean or Atlantic?

The weather in the South of France can be broadly divided between Mediterranean and Atlantic influenced weather. Just 25 kms East of here, the other side of a ridge of hills the weather becomes noticeably Mediterranean: drier scrub land, less green and less fertile. Contrast that with around 50km further west, the other side of Toulouse and you will notice a huge difference: the climate is much wetter and the winters last longer. Between the Black Mountains and Toulouse is the Lauragais countryside, where we are. Here you will enjoy an excellent climate, long warm summers, enough rain to keep the countryside green and make gardening a pleasure but not many of those grey skies and drizzle associated with much of Northern Europe. It often rains hard at night even in summer - then the next day is bright and sunny.

We do get all four seasons here - but not all on the same day (like where I used to live in England!)

Alfresco dining

As a guide we find ourselves beginning to eat lunch outside in March. Breakfasts outside normally start in April and evening meals May (we linger over our dinners). For the last 4 winters the weather has been good right through to Christmas, but January and February are wintery with snow and frosts - time for log fires and a hearty "Cassoulet" (the local bean and sausage stew). Then by St Davids day it seems to go from winter to summer overnight!
